The characteristic resilience of bamboo in growing in a cluster is indeed deeply etched in Chinese civilization and culture. For, being supple, pliant and typically growing in a cluster, the bamboo is able to sway with gusts by bending together in harmony without snapping. If the bamboo were to otherwise exist singly and go against the constant strong winds, it will surely snap one day and wither away.
This explains why bamboo has remained deeply rooted in Chinese civilization and culture since
ancient times. To this day the ethos of the resilient bamboo has remained an exquisite motif in Chinese art, literature, poetry, music, culture, and psyche.
