A pertinent practice followed by Dhammaputris and Dhammaputras in respect to Namaskara is the recitation of the Vandana Gathas (Stanzas of Paying Homage to the Buddha). This daily practice is observed in the morning and in the evening or night, in the home, and also collective in the vihara and at religious and public functions.
The Namaskara Salutation to the Buddha is traditionally preceded by a puja (symbolic offering of flowers, incense and other traditional items) as a symbolic expression of reverence, devotion and gratitude to the Buddha as the Supremely Self-enlightened, Unsurpassed Teacher.
