The rapid and extensive spread of the Buddha Dhamma is largely attributed to the devout commitment of bhikkhus and bhikkhunis to live by the letter and spirit of this important sutta. They were committed to serving the welfare and well-being of the masses. Also, apart from carrying out their religious commitments, the Maha Sangha encouraged cultural, social programs and projects and alleviated the needs and wants of less fortunate members of society.
