On their part, Dhammaputris and Dhammaputras (referred to in traditional texts as upasikas and upasakas) are to extend their support for the needs of the penniless mendicant bhikkhus and bhikkhunis. They are also expected to assist the Maha Sangha toward fulfilling their various monastic commitments and to help in their efforts to guide fellow lay members of the community to realize the latter’s wholesome aspirations and holistic development and progress.
