The Maha Sangha Role Model

Within the ambit of the Fourfold Sangha Community, bhikkhus and bhikkhunis are to serve as inspiring role models committed to diligently learning, practicing, and teaching the Sublime Buddha Dhamma. They are to demonstrate their commitment to live a monastic life by the very example of their devout practice of the Vinaya (monastic disciplinary rules) set out by the Buddha in the Vinaya Pitaka.

In committing to scrupulously follow the way of life of a renunciate (one who renounces a worldly life for a spiritual aspiration of attaining emancipation), they live a celibate life.
